WEXHAM COURT PARISH COUNCIL
REPORT OF THE CHAIRMAN
COUNCILLOR HENRY EGAN
December 13th 2005
Since our last meeting in November I have the following matters to report:
1. Grass Verges/Footpaths: There has been an increase in the amount of vehicles parked on grass verges and footpaths around the Parish, and residents are reminded that there is a new Bylaw in place that carries a £500 fine for each offence. The actions of these individuals shows a clear lack of consideration for other residents and their children, and also disabled residents who have at times had to risk life and limb because they are forced to go onto the highway due to footpaths being blocked. This situation cannot continue and SBC have been asked to enforce the new Bylaw.
2. Parking at Junctions: There has also been an increase in vehicles being parked close to road junctions. This again causes a hazard to other residents and road users. This practice is not only a breach of the Highway Code but is also illegal as it constitutes obstruction of the public highway which could lead to accidents or even fatalities. Again, this situation cannot continue and we will be liaising with SBC and the Police in an effort to deter this practice.
3. Invitation to Mayors Parlour: The Parish Council was invited to spend a social evening with The Mayor of Slough at the Town Hall. The evening was very enjoyable and those present were able to view various historical memorabilia associated with our town, including charters, and several chains of office that have been presented to Mayors over a number of years. I would like to thank the Mayor (Cllr. Latif Khan) for his hospitality on behalf on the Parish Council.
4. New Street Lighting: The replacement of the old street lighting in Norway Drive and the alleyways leading to Bells Close and Almons Way has now been completed. I’m sure that all who are affected will agree that there has been a significant improvement. However, I regret to inform you that some of the new lights have been tampered with by youths and are now defective. These have been reported and repairs are in hand.
5. Christmas Break: As this is our last meeting before Christmas, I would like to thank the Members and staff of the Parish Council for all their hard work during 2005 and would also like to thank the residents who support our meetings each month. Council is in recess during January and our next meeting will be on February the 14th (Valentines Day), so I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and an even better New Year; see you all in 2006.
