WEXHAM COURT PARISH COUNCIL

REPORT OF THE CHAIRMAN

COUNCILLOR HENRY EGAN

July 11th 2006

Since our last meeting in June 2006 I have the following matters to report:

1.      Cherries Play Area: The Clerk and I assisted by Cllrs Davies, Goddard, and MacIsaac have spent a lot of time visiting the play area during the mornings, afternoons, and late evenings whilst the renovation has been progressing.  The fact that the gates were locked and fencing had been erected around the newly installed play equipment did not deter children and their parents from entering the play area.  The lack of common sense used by these individuals resulted in several visits from Councillors and the Clerk.  Following the completion of the main works the play area has proved to be a resounding success with the children and their parents.  However, we have received two complaints from residents, both of which were related to noise late at night, and further investigation has shown that these complaints were relating to adults making noise rather than children.

2.      Wexham Primary School: I recently attended the opening of the Primary School’s nature area along with the Clerk, Cllrs Davies, Goddard, and Cheryl Hemming.  The event was well supported and the children put on a wonderful display of their work and performed various dance routines and musical acts.  I especially liked the ‘Ants’.  The nature trail was formally opened by a representative from the Natural History Museum.

3.      Mayor’s Civic Service: I attended the Mayor’s Civic Service which was held at St Mary’s Church in Wexham.  The service was well attended by members of the community, Borough Council, and the Deputy High Sheriff of Berkshire.  Rev. Donovan gave an unusual sermon which was centred on the current Borough administration and the message was clear that all Councillors, no matter what party they represent, should work together for the benefit of the residents of Slough.  The message would have had a better impact had representatives from all parties attended.  The absence of Cllrs Swindlehurst and Anderson (Labour) were noted.

4.      Wexham Court Parish Allotments:  The Clerk and I carried out an inspection of the allotments and spent some time speaking with Mrs Gale and some of the tenants.  The majority of plots are looking well kept but there are a couple of vacant plots that need attention.  The recent water leak has now been repaired but there have also been reports of kids climbing over the fences which need addressing.

5.      Risk Assessments:  I have completed the updates on the Risk Assessments and these have been passed to the Health and Safety Committee.  The Parish Council has carried out a lot of work over the past year and the Parish Hall is looking the best it has ever been.  I would like to thank the Clerk and her staff for all their hard work and to also thank Cllr Davies for his efforts on The Cherries Play Area project.
